How I capture genuine emotion with my couples

The fear and nerves leading up to a photo session are real. Having to stand in front of the camera and try to look beautiful and real and genuine…yeah, let’s just all give up now, right!? There is a reason why I am BEHIND the camera!

When I meet my couples, I want them to feel comfortable. But just saying, “oh, don’t worry!” usually does not do the trick. Providing a comfortable and safe place for my couples to be themselves is the main goal of mine going into a session. Truly, I want to get to know my couples, their love story, their personalities. I cannot do my job well if I cannot capture the genuine humans in front of my camera.

Once we all have the nerves out, I ask my couples to do silly things. Loosen up, dance, walk, talk. These moments allow all of us to just feel like we are hanging out-I just happen to have a camera or two. Not at all weird, right?! After some time, it is natural that my couples are able to open up, know that they can be intimate without having to be embarrassed, and they will be having fun!

How my couples FEEL during and after a session is just as important as the images that I capture. I want every moment to ooze love and genuine smiles. Longing gazes, soft whispers, and true honesty. I will not ask you to pose (unless I have a creative vision for a shot) and I will never have you do something that feels uncomfortable. The communication is always flowing and the session is usually over way too soon!

During your session (hangout) with me, I will ask you silly questions. I will have you do funny things. I will challenge your knowledge of your partner. I will have you whisper inappropriate “somethings” into the ear of the other and capture those genuine laughs and tears that inevitably follow. Our session is a time to learn more about your partner and your relationship. It is a time to build memories. I just happen to capture beautiful moments along the way!
